It Take a Village to Put Together a Nursery

As luck would have it, right before I got pregnant, we got new neighbors... and the son plays the electric guitar. Thankfully he seems to have a short attention span because he generally only plays for about 30 minutes at a time and not every day.

However, since the guestroom that we were originally planning to convert into the baby's room was right up against the wannabe Jimi Hendrix's room, we decided to move the computer desk and misc. junk into the guestroom and then turn the computer room into the baby's room.

First we had to get rid of the guestbed. A special thanks to my sister and Essie who rented a U-haul and moved our extra bed down to my parents in San Diego.

The next step was to move all the computer room furniture into the now empty guestroom. Despite having successfully built the shelves for the garage, Michael drew the line at moving furniture. This is where Bobbie (aka Super Princess Bobbie) saves the day with her "can do" attitude and industrial dollie. Not only did she show up an hour early with Shelbie in tow but she also brought spackle to repair the damage from dragging the guestbed down our narrow stairway... and offered to put together the crib- all this on the day of her bridal shower.
Just so that everyone can appreciate all the hard work being done in these photos- that hutch has quite the moving history. My sister had ordered that hutch from Pottery Barn right after she got her new house. The delivery people not only dropped it going up the stairs (punching a big hole into the wall of her brand new home) but they dropped it again upstairs (punching a second hole into the wall of her brand new home).

Then when I moved out of her house, the jailbirds that I hired as movers (never look for movers in the Pennysaver), didn't drop it only cause they dragged it across my sister's carpet leaving skid marks.

When Michael moved in, the hutch was moved again to make room for the extra bed and his movers also had a really hard time with it. Not only is the hutch extremely heavy but there's no easy grips on it.

However, Bobbie and Michael were able to move it with no problem.

I've always loved closet organizers but all the estimates that I got were so expensive so when our friend Tara volunteered her husband Mike to build out our closets, how could we refuse?

Tara and Mike (aka Bob Vila) showed up on a Saturday morning with their tools and Bob Vila got to work with Handy Jew as his sidekick. Not only did they build out the closet in the nursery but they also built out the closet in the computer room.

Tara also volunteered Bob Vila to build our crib. I just want to add that Michael almost had a heartattack when I told him that we were going to put together the crib ourselves. He was under the impression that this was a job that you paid someone to do but I quickly informed him only wussy dads rely on "professionals", real men build cribs.
